English

Abstract
Abstract
This study examined the potential protective effects of Lactobacillus delbrueckii against tin chloride (SnCl2)-induced liver toxicity in rats, focusing on liver histology and the gene expression of Protein Phosphatase 2A catalytic subunit (PP2CA) and Metal Regulatory Transcription Factor-1 (MTF1), both of which are involved in cellular stress and metal detoxification responses. Twenty male Wistar rats were divided into four groups: control, probiotic-only, SnCl2 -only, and SnCl2 combined with L. delbrueckii. Treatments were administered orally for four weeks. Liver tissues were then analyzed histologically, and rPP2CA and rMTF1 expression levels were measured using qRT-PCR. Exposure to tin chloride was associated with histopathological changes in the liver, including the presence of inflammatory cells, sinusoidal alterations, and morphological changes in hepatocytes. Gene expression analysis revealed that tin chloride significantly increased the expression levels of rPP2CA and rMTF1 genes compared with the control group (P < 0.01). In the group receiving a combination of L. delbrueckii and tin chloride, differences in hepatic histopathological characteristics and a significant reduction in the expression of both genes were observed compared with the tin chloride-treated group (P < 0.01). Furthermore, administration of the probiotic alone resulted in decreased expression of these genes compared with the control group (P < 0.01). Overall, L. delbrueckii may play a role in reducing liver injury through the modulation of cellular stress-related responses; however, further studies are required to elucidate the precise mechanisms underlying these effects.
