Enrofloxacin is one of the most widely used antibiotics in veterinary medicine, and its residues in animal products can pose a health risk to consumers. The aim of this study was to evaluate the level of enrofloxacin residues in beef and lamb supplied in Babolsar city using four-plate and ELISA methods. In this study, 360 meat samples, including 180 beef samples and 180 lamb samples, were randomly collected and tested. The results of the four-plate test showed that 30% of the samples had antibiotic residues (35% beef and 25% lamb samples). The ELISA test confirmed the presence of enrofloxacin in 5% of the samples, with a similar frequency observed in both types of meat (p > 0.05). The mean concentration of enrofloxacin in lamb samples was 107.3 ± 3.6 μg/kg, higher than that in beef samples, 75.7 ± 8.7 μg/kg. All positive lamb samples had levels above the permissible limit (MRL 100 μg/kg), while beef samples did not exceed this limit (p > 0.05). These results indicate the need for continuous monitoring of antibiotic residues in livestock products and strict adherence to the drug withdrawal period, especially in light livestock, to ensure the health of consumers.
